About Gymnothorax melatremus Schultz, 1953
This species, scientifically named Gymnothorax melatremus Schultz, 1953, has the following body characteristics. The origin of its dorsal fin lies approximately midway between the gill opening and the corner of the mouth. Its teeth are small and stout, with no canines. There is a single row of teeth at the front of the upper jaw, which contains 1 to 2 median teeth. Teeth are arranged in two rows on each side of the upper jaw, with longer and more slender teeth located in the inner row. The teeth at the front of the lower jaw are larger. This species reaches a maximum total length of 26 cm. Body coloration can range across golden, yellow, or white across the entire body, with black spots at the gill openings, and deep blue coloration in the eyes.
