The cap of Gymnopilus palmicola Murrill measures 2 to 5 centimetres (0.8 to 2.0 in) in diameter. This species does not stain blue when damaged, so it is thought to probably not contain hallucinogenic compounds. In terms of habitat and distribution, Gymnopilus palmicola grows on palm logs and living orchids. It has been recorded in Cuba, Mexico, and Florida, where it occurs between March and September.
