About Gymnomuraena zebra (Shaw, 1797)

The zebra moray (Gymnomuraena zebra) is classified as a medium-sized fish. It can reach a maximum total length of 150 cm, but the average size most commonly observed is around 50 cm. Its body has dense alternating dark and whitish bands, which is how it got its common name. It has a short, rounded snout. The zebra moray is widely distributed across the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from the eastern coast of Africa to the western coast of the Americas. This range includes the Red Sea, Hawaii, and the Galápagos. The zebra moray is a benthic fish. Its preferred habitat is rocky or coral reefs in shallow coastal waters, down to a depth of 40 meters.
