About Guttera pucherani verreauxi (D.G.Elliot, 1870)

This taxon is Guttera pucherani verreauxi, described by D.G. Elliot in 1870. The three species of crested guinea fowl reach a total length of around 50 cm (20 in), and weigh between 721–1,543 g (1.590–3.402 lb). Their overall plumage is blackish, marked with dense white spots. They have a distinctive black crest on the top of the head; the form of this crest ranges from small curly feathers to down, and varies between species. This black crest easily distinguishes crested guinea fowl from other guinea fowl species, with the exception of the plumed guinea fowl. The common names "crested" and "plumed" are often incorrectly applied to different species in this group.
