About Guttera pucherani (Hartlaub, 1861)

This species, Guttera pucherani, belongs to a group of three crested guinea fowl species. All three crested guinea fowl species reach a total length of roughly 50 cm (20 in), and have a body weight between 721 g (1.590 lb) and 1,543 g (3.402 lb). Their overall plumage is blackish, covered in dense white spots. All three species have a distinctive black crest on the top of the head; the structure of this crest ranges from small curly feathers to soft down, and the form differs between species. This crest easily distinguishes crested guinea fowl from other guinea fowl species, with the exception of the plumed guinea fowl. The common names "crested" and "plumed" are often incorrectly used for different species in this group.
