About Gunnera monoica Raoul

Gunnera monoica Raoul is an evergreen plant native to New Zealand. It flowers between October and November, and produces fruit from December through February. Its flowers are greenish. The small fruits measure only 2 millimetres in length, are barrel-shaped and white, though some varieties may have purple or red flecks, and are also described as red to reddish-yellow. Its leaves have a rounded appearance, with either a corrugated or spiky margin. This species is visually similar to Gunnera strigosa, but differs from it in leaf shape and hair distribution. It grows in moist lowland forests, moist lowland grasslands, on damp banks, and on old road cuttings.
