Each flower head contains 18 to 27 ray flowers, which surround a large number of tiny disc flowers. This plant is native to the Rocky Mountains, where it occurs in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. It grows in open rocky or gravelly sites within the Rocky Mountains.
