About Graptemys versa Stejneger, 1925
Graptemys versa is a small map turtle species. Females reach a maximum carapace length of 21.4 cm (8.4 in), while males are smaller, only growing to 9.0 cm (3.5 in) in carapace length. When viewed from above, its carapace is oval-shaped, with the widest point positioned just above the rear legs. The posterior marginal scutes of the carapace have a serrated edge, and the carapacial scutes are convex. A central medial keel runs along the vertebral scutes, and the keel is most prominent on the first three vertebral scutes. The apexes of these scutes are yellowish, but they often wear down as the turtle ages. The base color of the carapace is olive green, patterned with yellow reticulations. Juveniles and young adults typically have a faint pattern along the central seams of their plastral scutes. Some adults, however, have a plain creamy yellow plastron with no markings. This species is endemic to the Colorado River drainage in Texas, United States.
