About Graptemys pearlensis Ennen, Lovich, Kreiser, Selman & Qualls, 2010
Graptemys pearlensis, commonly called the Pearl River map turtle, is a species of emydid turtle native to the southern United States. A January 2017 study found that this species was significantly less abundant in the Pearl River region than the related ringed map turtle (Graptemys oculifera), and also had fewer reproductively mature females. The study also provided both statistical and observational evidence that G. pearlensis shows female-biased sexual dimorphism. This species is endemic to the Pearl River in Louisiana and Mississippi, where the ringed map turtle G. oculifera is also endemic.
