About Graphosoma semipunctatum (Fabricius, 1775)

Graphosoma semipunctatum is a species of true bug that lives exclusively in the Mediterranean region. The population found on the island of Crete has sometimes been classified under the separate name Graphosoma creticum. This species is very closely related to Graphosoma italicum. It can be distinguished from G. italicum by having black dots along its pronotum instead of black lines, and by having mostly orange legs. Graphosoma semipunctatum can be found abundantly on plants belonging to the family Apiaceae. Its red body color acts as a warning to predators that the species is not palatable.
