About Graphium evemon (Boisduval, 1836)
Graphium evemon, commonly known as the blue jay, lesser jay, or pale green triangle, is a species of tropical butterfly found in India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. While it is very similar to Graphium eurypylus, G. evemon is a distinct, independent species. Several morphological features distinguish this species: the scent-wool of the male always forms a narrow stripe hidden in the wing fold; the upperside of the abdomen of large males is never dusted with white; the last submarginal spot on the upperside of the forewing is absent or at most weakly indicated; and the harpe of the male genitalia can always be recognized by its long ventral process positioned closer to the base. Additionally, in specimens from Malaysia, the red costal spot on the underside of the hindwing is always absent. Females of Graphium evemon are similar in appearance to males. Karl Jordan, in Seitz's work (on pages 97 and 98), provides a description that differentiates G. evemon from closely related taxa and outlines the subspecies recognized at that time. Images exist of G. evemon and similar species.
