About Gonocerus insidiator (Fabricius, 1787)

Gonocerus insidiator, also known as this species of squash bug, reaches a body length of 10–15 millimetres (0.39–0.59 in). Individuals have greenish protruding eyes and long, four-segmented reddish brown antennae. The broad pronotum bears two long sharp spikes. The basic body color is reddish brown, with a yellowish-green ventral side. Leg color may be either yellowish-green or reddish-yellow. The head is shorter than the pronotum, and has no black bands between the antennae and the rear edge. The corium displays small spots, but does not have extensive stains. At the humeral corners, the pronotum is wider than the abdomen, including the connexivi. This species can be distinguished from Gonocerus acuteangulatus by its wider pronotum. It is a holomediterranean species, mainly found in France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, and former Yugoslavia. These squash bugs prefer habitats in riverine woods.
