About Gonocerus acuteangulatus (Goeze, 1778)
Gonocerus acuteangulatus (Goeze, 1778) is a medium-sized true bug species. Adult individuals of this species reach 11 to 14 millimeters in body length. Adult bugs have a speckled reddish-brown body coloration and a slightly expanded abdomen, while nymphs have green abdomens. This species is quite similar in appearance to Coreus marginatus, but it can be distinguished by a narrower abdomen and sharper lateral margins on its pronotum – this trait is the source of the Latin species name acuteangulatus. Gonocerus acuteangulatus is commonly found across the entire Mediterranean region, and its distribution extends into Central Asia and parts of northwestern Europe. As a heat-loving species, it primarily inhabits dry, warm, south-exposed environments. These include bushy areas, forest edges, and sites with berry-producing shrubs and small trees from multiple plant families. It occurs especially on plants from Buxaceae and Rhamnaceae, and is also found on Rosa canina, Crataegus species (family Rosaceae), and Lonicera xylosteum (family Caprifoliaceae).
