About Gonocarpus teucrioides DC.
Gonocarpus teucrioides DC., commonly known as forest raspwort, is a common flowering herb or subshrub belonging to the watermilfoil family, Haloragaceae. This species is native to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania. It is widespread and abundant in the understorey of wet forests. The common name raspwort comes from the rough, scabrous surface found on many Gonocarpus species. Its specific epithet teucrioides is formed from the genus name Teucrium combined with the Greek suffix -oides, which means resemblance; the resulting epithet means this species resembles plants in the genus Teucrium. G. teucrioides prefers moist, well-drained soils in semi-shade. It is common in the understorey of open or partially open forests and other vegetation types, particularly those that experience enhanced runoff or higher than average rainfall.
