About Goniobranchus tasmaniensis (Bergh, 1905)

Goniobranchus tasmaniensis is a species of chromodorid nudibranch. It has a translucent white mantle covered in scattered orange or red spots. The edge of its mantle is opaque white, and is somewhat swollen and ruffled when the animal is at rest. This species shares similar coloration with Goniobranchus splendidus, Goniobranchus hunterae, and Goniobranchus daphne, so it can be compared to these three species. This species was first described from specimens collected in Tasmania, Australia. It is part of a group of similar red-spotted chromodorids native to south-eastern Australia that together form a mimicry ring. This species feeds on the sponge Darwinella gardineri.
