About Goniobranchus daphne (Angas, 1864)
Goniobranchus daphne (Angas, 1864) is a species of chromodorid nudibranch. This nudibranch has a translucent white mantle covered with scattered red spots. The edge of the mantle is red, which grades into yellow along its inner side. Numerous opaque white glands sit adjacent to this colored band along the mantle edge. The rhinophores are mostly red, but are translucent at their base. The gills have a deep pink outer rachis and white leaves. Goniobranchus daphne shares similar coloration with three other related species: Goniobranchus splendidus, Goniobranchus hunterae, and Goniobranchus tasmaniensis. This species was first described from specimens collected at Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia. It belongs to a group of similar red-spotted chromodorids from south-eastern Australia that together form a mimicry ring.
