About Goeppertia picturata (K.Koch & Linden) Borchs. & S.Suárez
Goeppertia picturata is a plant species currently classified in the genus Goeppertia, which belongs to the family Marantaceae. It is native to northwest Brazil, and has been introduced to Colombia, Peru, the Leeward Islands, and the Windward Islands. This species grows as a clump-forming evergreen perennial that reaches 35–40 cm (14–16 in) in height. The upper surfaces of its leaves are dark green, while the lower surfaces are purple; leaves are also heavily marked with silver along the veins and midrib. It is a tender plant that requires a minimum temperature of 16 °C (61 °F), and in temperate regions it is cultivated indoors as a houseplant. The cultivar 'Argentea' of Goeppertia picturata, which has silver leaves edged in green, has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
