About Goeppertia ornata (Linden) Borchs. & S.Suárez

Goeppertia ornata, also known by the synonym Calathea ornata, is a perennial species belonging to the prayer plant family. It is native to Colombia and Venezuela. In the horticultural trade, houseplants labeled as "pinstripe calathea" are sold under the names Goeppertia ornata or Calathea ornata. However, Marantaceae expert Helen Kennedy confirms that these commercially sold plants are actually Goeppertia majestica. True Goeppertia ornata is much harder to cultivate, and it disappeared from cultivation sometime before the mid-1990s.
