About Goeppertia majestica (Linden) Borchs. & S.Suárez
Goeppertia majestica, with the synonym Calathea majestica, is commonly known as the majestic prayer plant. It is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Marantaceae. This species is native to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, and northern Brazil, and it has been introduced to Venezuela. In the Amazon region, the leaves of this plant, which are referenced there as Calathea gigas, are traditionally used to line baskets that hold fish, and also used as thatch. Grown as an ornamental plant, Goeppertia majestica has attractive foliage and can be cultivated both indoors and in outdoor gardens. It is a large member of the Goeppertia genus, and has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
