About Gobio lozanoi Doadrio & Madeira, 2004

The Iberian gudgeon, scientifically known as Gobio lozanoi, is a small species of gudgeon, which is a freshwater ray-finned fish in the family Gobionidae. This species is native only to the Iberian Peninsula, occurring in the Ebro and Bidasoa drainages, as well as in the Adour drainage in France and in Andorra. It has been introduced across the entire Iberian Peninsula, including Portugal. It is a freshwater demersal fish that reaches a maximum length of 11.9 cm. The species is named in honor of Luis Lozano Rey (1878-1958) of the University of Madrid, recognizing his contributions to the study of Iberian freshwater fishes.
