About Gnorimoschema saphirinella (Chambers, 1875)

Gnorimoschema saphirinella is a species of moth belonging to the family Gelechiidae. It was originally described by Vactor Tousey Chambers in 1875. This moth is widespread across North America, with confirmed records from the U.S. states of Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Male forewings measure 4.5 to 6 millimeters in length, while female forewings measure 4.2 to 5.9 millimeters in length. Adult moths can be found in flight from February through October. The species' larvae feed on three plant species: Ambrosia chamissonis, Ambrosia confertifolia, and Ambrosia psilostachya. Larvae create leaf mines inside the leaves of their host plants.
