About Gnorimopsar chopi (Vieillot, 1819)
Gnorimopsar chopi (Vieillot, 1819), commonly called the chopi blackbird, measures 25 cm (9.8 in) in length and has solid black plumage across its entire body. It resembles the Forbes's blackbird, but can be distinguished by its slightly curved bill that features a distinct groove along the lower mandible. Its call is a loud, explosive "tjouw", which is produced either as a single note or a random series of notes that vary in pitch. This species is distributed across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats include dry savanna, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, pastureland, and heavily degraded former forest.
