About Gnidia pinifolia L.

The lectotype of Gnidia pinifolia L., as designated by Rogers in Rogers & Spencer (Taxon 55: 485, 2006), is the icon "Rapunculus foliis nervosis linearibus, floribus argenteis, non galeatis" from Burman's Rar. Afric. Pl., page 112, plate 41, figure 3, published in 1739. The epitype, also designated by Rogers in Rogers & Spencer (Taxon 55: 486, 2006), is a specimen from South Africa, specifically the Western Cape Province, Cape Peninsula, on the slopes of mountains above Clovelly at approximately 400 ft. It was collected on 24 September 1983 by P. Goldblatt (specimen number 6953, stored at MO - 3116540).
