About Gnetum luofuense C.Y.Cheng
Gnetum luofuense C.Y.Cheng is a dioecious vine with purplish-brown bark. Its leaves are oblong or oblong-ovate, with texture ranging from papery to leathery, and measure 10–18 cm (3.9–7.1 in) in length by 5–8 cm (2.0–3.1 in) in width. This species is native to southeastern China, occurring in Fujian, Guangdong, southern Jiangxi, and Hong Kong. Its type locality is Luófú Shān located in Guangdong province. It grows in dense moist forests, at elevations between 20 m (66 ft) and 1,000 m (3,300 ft). Pollination of Gnetum luofuense takes place from May to July, and its seeds mature from August to October. Nocturnal moths are the predominant pollinator of this species. Other insects often visit the plant's strobili without acting as pollinators. Asian honey bees (Apis cerana) have been observed stealing pollen from the species' male strobili.
