Glycyrrhiza echinata L. is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the genus Glycyrrhiza. It has a number of common names: Chinese licorice, German licorice, hedgehog licorice, Eastern European licorice, Hungarian licorice, prickly licorice, and Roman licorice. This species is native to Southeastern Europe, as well as adjacent areas of West Asia and East Asia. It is used as a flavoring agent, used for medicinal purposes, and used to produce Russian and German licorice.
