About Glossaulax reclusiana (Deshayes, 1839)
This species has the accepted scientific name Glossaulax reclusiana (Deshayes, 1839). The shell of Glossaulax reclusiana is ovate-conical, swollen, and has a smooth or slightly striated surface. Its color is grayish-lead, with a whitish base and a dark band around the suture. The umbilicus is large and mostly covered by an unevenly grooved callus. The columella has heavy callousing at the top: it is white in its upper section, and marked with a dark spot in its lower section. The aperture is ovate-semilunar with a small channel at the top, and its interior ranges from white to brownish. Adult shells can reach a height of 84 millimetres (3.3 inches). This species occurs along the coasts of California and Mexico. It inhabits shallow bays and lagoons, ranging from the intertidal zone down to depths of approximately 49.5 metres (162 feet).
