About Glomeris klugii Brandt, 1833
Glomeris klugii shows a broad range of colour variation, with many distinct colour morphs and existing subspecies, each of which has unique colour patterns. For most individuals, the base body colour typically falls between light brown and red. Many specimens have vividly coloured chitin and a clear marbled pattern. The presence of black freckles across the body varies: some individuals have freckles that merge into larger spots, while other individuals are entirely black in colour. This species can reach a maximum length of approximately 13.5 mm (0.53 inches) and a maximum width of 6.25 mm (0.24 inches). On its telopods, the syncoxite has slight variations in the shape of its central lobe, and the coxal horns are delicately bifurcated. G. klugii also lacks a main stria on the thoracic shield. This species occurs across Europe and North Africa. In Europe, it has been recorded in Austria, Croatia, Germany, and Italy. In North Africa, it is found in Algeria and Tunisia. It lives on sloped forest habitats, and prefers calcareous soils. Individuals can be found on the forest floor, within leaf litter, and under stones. The forest habitats it occupies include trees from the genera Acer, Castanea, and Fraxinus.
