About Glomeris connexa C.L.Koch, 1847

Glomeris connexa is a species of pill millipede. Females of this species reach a length of 7–15 millimetres (0.28–0.59 in), while males reach 8–20 millimetres (0.31–0.79 in). Specimen colour ranges from shiny brown to greyish black; lighter coloured individuals are far more common, with darker colour forms appearing only occasionally. This species is native to Europe, ranging from the Southern Alps to the Apennine Mountains. It has been recorded in the European countries of Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Ukraine, and also in central European Russia. Glomeris connexa lives in forest habitats, and is a dominant millipede species in many forest types including old-growth forest. It thrives in forests with poor soils and average humidity. It can often be found living alongside Polydesmus complanatus, but both species’ populations decrease in forests with fertile soils and high humidity.
