About Gladiolus illyricus W.D.J.Koch

Gladiolus illyricus, commonly called the wild gladiolus, is a flowering plant that belongs to the iris family Iridaceae. This is a tall gladiolus species, reaching up to 50 centimeters (20 inches) in height. Its native range spans western and southern Europe, with a particularly high occurrence around the Mediterranean region. In Britain, only a small population of this species is known to grow in the New Forest area, and researcher Williamson has suggested this population may be an introduced rather than native group. It was officially designated a protected species in the United Kingdom in 1975, under the Conservation of Wild Creatures and Wild Plants Act.
