About Gladiolus carneus D.Delaroche

Gladiolus carneus D.Delaroche is a plant species in the family Iridaceae, commonly known as the Painted Lady Gladiolus. This species forms a tunicated corm and is summer dormant. It is native to South Africa, where it grows in regions with a dry summer and wet winter climate. At maturity, it reaches approximately 50 centimeters in height. It is highly ornamental, and makes an excellent cut flower. For cultivation, Gladiolus carneus grows well when planted in the ground in Mediterranean climates, or grown in pots in any climate. It reliably returns each growing season. Corms can be dug up and stored during the summer, and must be kept dry over this period. Plant corms in autumn, placing 5 centimeters (2 inches) of soil above the corm, and spacing them 5 to 10 centimeters (2 to 4 inches) apart.
