About Githopsis pulchella Vatke

Githopsis pulchella is a species of flowering plant in the bellflower family, with the common names Sierra bluecup and largeflower bluecup. This species is endemic to California, growing at lower elevations in the Sierra Nevada and in the southern reaches of the Cascade Range. It is an annual herb that grows an erect stem reaching a maximum height between 4 and 40 centimeters. The stem may be hairy or hairless, and bears occasional small lance-shaped leaves. A single solitary flower grows at the top of the stem. The flower is one to two centimeters long, bell-shaped, and deep violet with a white throat. A small, erect style is visible within the flower's throat.
