About Gibbifer californicus (Lacordaire, 1842)

This species was previously published under the scientific name Cypherotylus californicus. It is commonly called the blue fungus beetle or blue pleasing fungus beetle, and is a species of pleasing fungus beetle belonging to the family Erotylidae. It has been recorded from the US states of Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Kansas, as well as from Sonora, a Mexican state. Its elytra are blue with black spots, and the blue color fades to gray as the beetle ages. Adult individuals of this species are typically 1.4–1.8 cm (0.6–0.7 in) in length.
