About Gerdana caritella Busck, 1908

Gerdana is a genus of moths that belongs to the family Autostichidae. This genus holds only a single species: Gerdana caritella Busck, 1908. This species is native to North America, with recorded occurrences in southeastern Canada and the eastern United States. Gerdana caritella has a wingspan that measures between 13 and 17 mm. Its forewings are light yellow, and are suffused with a darker saffron-yellow coloring. The basal half of the forewing costal edge is darkened by black dusting. Its hindwings are a whitish fuscous shade. Adult moths are most active on the wing from June through August. The larvae of Gerdana caritella have been recorded feeding on Phoradendron, Picea mariana, and Picea pungens.
