About Geranospiza caerulescens (Vieillot, 1817)

The crane hawk, with the scientific name Geranospiza caerulescens, is a bird of prey species belonging to the Accipitridae family. It is the sole species in the genus Geranospiza. Crane hawks live in tropical lowlands at forest edges, and are almost always closely associated with water. This species occurs in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad, Uruguay, and Venezuela. These birds are irruptive, locally occurring migrants, and they probably move to respond to changing water conditions.
