About Geranium phaeum L.

Geranium phaeum, commonly known as dusky crane's-bill, mourning widow, or black widow, is a herbaceous plant species belonging to the Geraniaceae family. It is native to southern, central, and western Europe, and is cultivated for use in gardens. It produces dark violet flowers. The species can be easily identified by its dark purple petals that curve backward, paired with prominent, protruding stamens and style. The petals have crinkly edges and pointed tips. Its leaves are often marked with brown blotches. The cultivar 'Our Pat' has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
