About Geranium maderense Yeo

Scientific name: Geranium maderense Yeo. Geranium maderense, commonly called giant herb-Robert or the Madeira cranesbill, is a flowering plant species in the Geraniaceae family, native to the island of Madeira. This species is sometimes confused with another Madeira endemic, Geranium palmatum.

It grows into a mound that reaches 120–150 cm (47–59 in) in both height and width. It is an evergreen that grows as a biennial or triennial, with deeply divided, ferny leaves. In summer, it produces spectacular pink flowers in large panicles that grow from hairy red stems.

It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in temperate regions. In these regions, it is hardy in mild or coastal areas, and can tolerate temperatures as low as −5 °C (23 °F). This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
