About Geopelia maugeus (Temminck, 1809)

Geopelia maugeus is a relatively small species of pigeon. Adults measure between 23 and 25 centimeters (9.1 to 10.2 inches) in length. Its overall base color is greyish, and most of its underparts and breast are covered in a pattern of black bars. The orbital skin of this bird is yellowish. This species, commonly called the barred dove, inhabits lowland environments including scrubs, cultivated lands, and woodland edges. It occurs in dry, open habitats that have some shrub cover, as well as along the edges of dry woodland areas. Its elevational range spans from 0 to 1400 meters above sea level. It can be found on Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba, Wetar, Alor, Timor, the Tanimbar Islands, the Kei Islands, and other small islands.
