About Gentiana nivalis L.
Gentiana nivalis, commonly known as the snow gentian or Alpine gentian, is a species belonging to the genus Gentiana. Individuals of this species grow between 3 and 15 centimetres, or 1.2 to 5.9 inches, tall. It is designated the county flower of Perthshire in the United Kingdom. In 1975, it became a protected species across the United Kingdom under the Conservation of Wild Creatures and Wild Plants Act. It is also counted as one of the national flowers of both Austria and Switzerland. G. nivalis appears on the coat of arms of Nord-Aurdal Municipality, Norway.
