About Gentiana bavarica L.
Gentiana bavarica L. is a small plant that grows between 5 and 15 centimeters (2.0 to 5.9 inches) tall. It produces a basal rosette of yellowish-green leaves; the leaves are obovate to spathulate in shape, and are roughly 1 centimeter long. Its flowers are a deep blue color, measuring 1 to 2 centimeters (0.39 to 0.79 inches) long, with broad, spreading lobes. The blooming period for this species runs from July to August. This gentian is native to the European Alps, and grows best in wet grassland habitats located 1,300 to 3,600 meters (4,300 to 11,800 feet) above sea level.
