About Gekko smithii Gray, 1842

Gekko smithii Gray, 1842 is one of the largest gecko species. Adult individuals reach a total length of 35 cm (14 in) when including the tail, with a snout-vent length (SVL) of 19 cm (7.5 in). This species is distributed across southern Thailand (Satun, Narathiwat, Pattani), Singapore, western Malaysia (Pulau Pinang, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Pulau Tioman), Myanmar (also called Burma), India (Nicobar Islands), and Indonesia (Borneo, Sumatra, Pulau Nias, Java). Its type locality is "Prince of Wales' Island", which corresponds to Pulau Pinang in West Malaysia. The species' preferred natural habitat is forest. For reproduction, sexually mature female G. smithii produce clutches of two eggs. The eggs are nearly spherical, with an average measurement of 20 x 19 mm (0.79 x 0.75 in).
