About Gasteracantha kuhli C.L.Koch, 1837
This species, scientifically named Gasteracantha kuhli C.L.Koch, 1837, shows strong sexual dimorphism in size and body structure. Females, which are black-and-white spiny spiders, measure 6–9 millimeters wide. They have hard, shiny abdomens that bear six black conical spines. The upper dorsal surface of the abdomen ranges from white to yellowish, and it is covered in variable black or dark brown markings and sigilla. The central area of the abdomen's dorsal surface usually has a dark cross-shaped marking. Both spine length and the exact details of coloration vary a great deal between individual spiders and across the species' entire range. Males are much smaller than females, reaching only 3–4 millimeters in size. Instead of spines, male abdomens have small bumps.
