About Garrulax ruficeps Gould, 1863

The rufous-crowned laughingthrush, currently classified as Pterorhinus ruficeps, is a bird species that belongs to the family Leiothrichidae. This species is endemic to Taiwan. It was previously treated as conspecific with the white-throated laughingthrush, P. albogularis. It was originally placed in the genus Garrulax. After a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study was published in 2018, the species was moved to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus.
