The spotted laughingthrush is a bird species that belongs to the family Leiothrichidae. This species can be found in Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The spotted laughingthrush was originally classified in the genus Garrulax. After a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study was published in 2018, it was reclassified to the resurrected genus Ianthocincla.
