About Garrulax mitratus (S.Muller, 1836)

The chestnut-capped laughingthrush, also called the spectacled laughingthrush, is a bird species that belongs to the family Leiothrichidae. It was originally scientifically described as Garrulax mitratus by S. Muller in 1836. This species is found in Sumatra, Indonesia, and on the Thai-Malay Peninsula. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The chestnut-hooded laughingthrush was previously classified as a subspecies of the chestnut-capped laughingthrush. The chestnut-capped laughingthrush was formerly assigned to the genus Garrulax, but after the publication of a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study in 2018, it was moved to the resurrected genus Pterorhinus, the current genus it is placed in.
