About Gamochaeta stagnalis (I.M.Johnst.) Anderb.
Gamochaeta stagnalis, commonly known as the desert cudweed, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Asteraceae. It is native to Mexico, Guatemala, and the southwestern United States, specifically California, Arizona, and New Mexico. This plant is an annual herb that grows to a maximum height of 35 cm (14 in), and produces a slender taproot. Its leaves can reach up to 3 cm (1.2 in) in length. Gamochaeta stagnalis forms many small flower heads arranged in tightly packed clumps. Each flower head holds 3–4 purple disc flowers, and produces no ray flowers. This species is very similar to G. purpureum, and some specimens of G. stagnalis, particularly those collected in Arizona, have been misidentified as G. purpureum.
