About Gallowayella hasseana (Räsänen) S.Y.Kondr., Fedorenko, S.Stenroos, Kärnefelt, Elix, Hur & A.Thell

Gallowayella hasseana is a lichen with a yellowish-orange thallus made up of small, overlapping lobes that are 0.3–0.9 mm wide. These lobes are arranged in a loosely attached rosette shape. The undersurface of the thallus is white, and the lichen attaches to its bark substrate with relatively long rhizines. No isidia or soredia are present on the surface of the thallus. Apothecia, which are usually numerous in the center of the thallus, have dark orange discs and measure 0.6–3 mm in diameter. The ascospores are ellipsoid in shape with a single septum, and their typical dimensions are 15.5–18 by 7.5–9.5 μm. Gallowayella hasseana grows mostly on bark, particularly poplar bark, though it has occasionally been found growing on rock or wood. It prefers growing in open or partially shaded areas.
