About Galium mollugo L.
Galium mollugo L. grows to a height of 15–100 cm (5.9–39.4 in). Its stems are square in cross-section, more or less erect, and have ascending branches. It produces inflorescences of small white flowers that grow from leaf axils; each flower is 1.0 to 1.5 cm in diameter and has four petals. In the Northern Hemisphere, its flowering season runs from May to September.
This species is commonly found in hedges, bushes, alongside paths, in meadows, and on slopes, growing at elevations up to 2,100 m (6,900 ft) above sea level.
Galium mollugo is widely distributed across Europe and North Africa, ranging from Denmark south to Portugal and Morocco, and east to the Altay region of Siberia and the Caucasus. It has become naturalized in the Russian Far East, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Greenland, Argentina, Uruguay, and most of North America. It has been documented growing in the Rocky Mountains, the Cascade Range, the Sierra Nevadas, the Appalachian Mountains, and the Great Lakes region. It is categorized as a noxious weed in New York, Pennsylvania, and most of New England.
