About Galium angustifolium Nutt.
Galium angustifolium Nutt., commonly called narrowleaf bedstraw, is a species of flowering plant in the coffee family. It is native to California (including the Channel Islands) and Baja California, where it most often grows at low elevations in the mountains. It is a stocky perennial herb or small shrub that grows from a woody base, and produces sprawling stems ranging from a few centimeters to nearly one meter in length. Leaves grow in whorls of four at intervals along the stem, and stems may branch at these same points. The inflorescence is a panicle that holds several flowers. This plant is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate individual plants. Male and female flowers are similar in appearance, with greenish-yellow floral parts. The fruit of this species is a nutlet covered in long, bristly white or yellowish hairs.
