About Galeopsis angustifolia Ehrh. ex Hoffm.

The plant Galeopsis angustifolia Ehrh. ex Hoffm. is also known as Galeopsis ladanum var. angustifolia, and its common name is red hemp-nettle. This is an annual plant native to Europe that grows up to 30 centimetres tall. It produces flowers between June and October, and grows on waste ground, railway tracks, and other stony habitats. It is classified as critically endangered. Its population has declined dramatically over the last 60 years, caused by increased use of fertiliser and herbicide. Modern farming practices such as autumn cultivation have also harmed this plant, as the plants are killed before they can produce and set seed.
