About Galathea strigosa (Linnaeus, 1760)

Galathea strigosa is a species of squat lobster that belongs to the family Galatheidae. This species is distributed across the northeast Atlantic Ocean, ranging from North Cape down to the Canary Islands, and also occurs in the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. While Galathea strigosa is edible, it is not targeted or caught for commercial fishing. It is the largest squat lobster found in the northeast Atlantic. It can reach a total length of 90 millimetres (3.5 inches), with a maximum carapace length of 53 millimetres (2.1 inches). It is easily recognizable by the transverse blue stripes that run across its body.
